Stray Heart (Arizona)
03:26
|
|||
flying south to arizona
7 miles in the sky
desert sands sprawl out below me
follow the echo of the coyote's cry
took off by the morning sunlight
with a fire that burns so like a curse
I hear the call of the sonoran
arid wind its song and verse
voice that called out arizona
in the valley lay my bones
my restless heart will cease its wandering
when I finally get back home
in the land of the scorpion
where the rattler's stake their claim
between the ancient veins of turquoise
lay the earth that knows my name

Excommunication (Utah)

well it don't make much sense to me
why a man shouldn't live his life in peace
on the trail,
climbin blind
making my way up to kings peak in my own time
conversations with the stars
come on down and tell me how you are
cause my only friends are in the sky
it'll be that way until I die
no more guarded secrets
souls in white
no more ancient order
tell me how to live my life
Just me and the big sky
all alone
me on my own two feet
nothin to atone

Give up everything that I know
leave it dusted on the side of the road
promise of a better life lay
hidden in the hills
carving into the earth
becoming the rill
here and now,
a state built on blood.
lonesome howl
and the deadly flood
gunnin down
ain't no one growing old
death abounds
on the search for gold
took off in the dead of the night
nothing to my name but quickness of slight
racing on the whitest horse, my lorelei
i'll never rest i swear
even when i die.
How does it feel
To treat me like you do?
When you've laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how do I feel
Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today
I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel
Now I stand here waiting
I thought I told you to leave me
While I walk down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold, grows cold...

rise soft from the sand:
a forest revealed
silent standing remains, dot the coastal field
a monument to fate.
A fate that's sealed.
Consumed by the water's grave
once more concealed
With the waning tide
a haunting of the past.
Massive tectonic force,
the great shudder and crash.
And the trees standing tall
washed beneath
and the trees standing tall
washed beneath
Listen close
to the whispers on the waves
ushered forth as secrets of the past
indifferent earth, subsuming our remains
graveyard beacon, illuminate our path
Held soft in palm
scattered grains of sand
offered to the wind
emerging from our hands
and we, standing tall
washed beneath
and we standing tall
washed beneath

last nite i heard your voice
speak so clear to me
yes i know you aren't
the person i imagine you to be
i still took your advice
and i held it close to my heart
only thing i could do
to keep from falling apart
i wanna hold on
to my own fleeting dreams
i wanna shelter
the person i'm trying to be
and thru the rain
the the world would rather that i drown
i'll keep myself
with all the love that i found
though i walk this path
in this darkness here
i will soldier on
bold and brave without any fear
yes i'm lost in these woods
hundreds of miles away from home
i know that I am never
never alone
|
||||
6. |
||||
i walk this path
walk it all alone
i ain't got a thing
thing to call my own
one day i'll leave
heart of loneliness
but there are things
heart can't forget
sun bearing down
burn the skin on my back
no one around
just a wolf without a pack
and all day long
feel that tired ache
what's a man to do
when he ain't got a stake
in this world
like the basin land
broken by the range
there's a natural law
you know that can't be changed
though i am gone
forever i remain
doomed to walk this path
as a broken chain

Bison Wallow (Wyoming)
02:47
|
|||
all the years gone by
hanging on like ghosts
on the manifest ride
eyes along the coast
legacy of pride
and the annals of shame
where the legends have lied
yet the spirit remains
memories that would feed the land
taken as a right by the arms of man
in the fields where the bison roam no more
by the shadow of the teton reveling in gore
not so deep
the watering hole
a place for beasts
to rest their bones
then the crack of the gun
mass sprawl of decay
then you see the holes
dry and fade away

meet me at la poudre pass
with your whole life strapped
right there on your back
where this land is split by the divide
is where we'll start
the newest part of our lives
by the bends of this great river
and over the plateau
starlit valleys and winter shivers
wherever we will go
and the rapids that we're chasing
will lead us down the line
thru the greater rocky mountains
with the westerly sun that shines
on You and Me
Onward now, through the grand valley
waving to the san juan and the elk
at the foot of the great mount elbert
anywhere with you, and nobody else

rough livin for me
shots ringing thru the trees
man lives like a fable
slips away quiet
on the breeze
wherever you may roam
you call the mountains your home
live like a rumor on the lips of the valley
like you gotta life that ain't your own
/High Mountain Outlaw:
Did they forget your name?,
or was the mark you left in history writ with the blood you stained.
When the dust has settled, will it be you who shall remain?
Or will the passage of the bullet, leave your legacy in vain?/
rough livin for me
shots ringin thru the trees
take my chances on a life on the run
rather than spend my life livin on my knees

Boundless Road (Idaho)
07:32
|
|||
Weaving my soul to the curves of the riverbend
on the search for a hidden truth, yeah I'm searching for a friend
cause I can feel
breath from the winds of past
I can feel
the stars as they guide my path
these valleys and plains
my forever home
ancient messages carved into faces of stone
and the wind is real
real as the night and day
the wind is real
enough to guide me on my way
I am the trees
just as I am the sky
I am the dirt that will reclaim me when I die
I'm a nameless searcher
throughline to the past
as the deepest canyon, or as large as the sky is vast
I am the echo, the flowers in pouring rain
I am the echo, of a conquest made in vain
They leveled the gun to take it all by force
an endless exodus, driven by powder and horse
they said that's the way
the way it'll always be
they snatched the reigns, and called it destiny
But there was a time, a time they called before
when the vanishing hill was unmarred by the scars of war
the time before, is what will come to pass
a grand return to the sprawling lands

Song for Andrea (Nevada)
03:25
|
|||
I wish I could tell you just what you mean to me. That there was a way to put into words what you inspire me to be.
Yeah the seasons are changing, always moving fast, but whether in sun and weather in snow you and me were built to last
if i were a cowboy with a heart to mend:
I'd sing my song to you about the years we'd spend living out by the truckee whoever we intend.
I may not be a cowboy, but we can just pretend.
Home means nevada.
Home means the hills.
Home is all the times we've shared.
All of those thrills.
In the Reno twilight, I think just what a home could be.
Nevada's just the state I live in.
You mean home to me.
